Problems with brakes on 2003 through 2005 Ford Ranger pickup trucks. I have owned a brand new 2003 Ford Ranger edge standard cab pickup and now own a 2005 Ford Ranger XLT extended cab pickup. Both pickups I have had problems with the front and rear brakes. The 2003 Ford Ranger, the read brake shoe linings came detached from the shoe causing damage and having to have the brake components reinstalled at my cost. The 2005 Ford Ranger has had the same issues but with hardware failure of the springs and tensioners. Both situations the brakes failed and are not covered under warranty. The 2003 Ford Ranger, I was shown the shoes by a service technician and told the brakes would have lasted at least until 50,000 miles but the "salt" from NY winters eats away the glue that holds the shoe linings to the shoe and causes it to separate. I was told that the dealership continues to have several issues with Ford brakes on all models due to the winter season. In both cases, I had my brakes serviced through the dealership and paid to have them "cleaned, inspected, and lubricated" per the service manual. I have spent large amounts of money with problems on my brakes every year on both of these vehicles that I owned. I no longer own the 2003 Ford Ranger but I currently own the 2005. If this problem had happened during driving, it could have caused a serious accident with a very large sum of money to replace brakes that continue to be problems on this model. Most of my driving is highway and very little off road. The parts in the brakes appear to be of low quality and of manufacturer defect (glue not holding, springs breaking, parts breaking under normal conditions). I think there is serious problems with the brake parts to include springs, tensioners, pads and shoes on the 2003 to 2005 Ford Rangers enough to cause serious damage or loss of life due to failure of components.

12/16/02 (36,635 miles) first notified dealer that brakes seemed to take farther distance for stop and that there was a severe vibration in the whole vehicle when braking. They determined the front rotors were faulty and fixed them. 5/5/03 (40,771 miles) truck was returned to dealer for the same issue, both front rotors, calipers, and pads were replaced. 9/13/04 (55,637 miles) truck was returned again to the dealer for the same problem and was told by dealer that the issue was now the rear drums being out of round and that they would fix for 300 dollars. Consumer plans to get a second opinion.

When pressing on the brake to make a quick stop on dry pavement, the brake pedal bent approximately 15 degrees preventing me from stopping in time to avoid hitting the car in front of me. The truck did not skid nor did the the anti-lock brake systems activate.
While driving there was unwanted acceleration. The consumer states it becomes very violent upon coming to a stop. When the consumer stopped using the auto speed control the surging did not occur until early 2005. There was a banging noise coming from the rear when braking due to the rear speed sensor and the brake pump, it made the vehicle feel as if it were being hit in the back.
While driving at 45 mph throttle sticks open and vehicle unexpectedly accelerated and took off. Driver firmly held brake pedal to the floor and shift vehicle into netural to gain control. Feel free to provide any further infromation.

I have a 2002 Ford Ranger, I have took it in 4 times for service on the brakes. They tell me now they find nothing wrong, but the shaking stering wheel continues. Long lewis Ford of muscle shoals,al is the dealer.

Driving on an incline of about 30 degrees and stopping on the incline applyi the foot brakes, after releasing the foot brakes the car would roll backwards. While coming down on the same incline and stopping on the incline with the foot bakes and selecting rev and releasing the foot barkes the car would roll down the incline. Took the car to the dealer for a check of the problem. They ran some test and said that this was normal. I disagreed, the truck is still doing the same thing.

The brake rotors and rear barke drums are very prone to rust. Rotors rust very badly on the colling vanes and a lot of rust builds up out side of the wear surfaces on both the rotors and drums. Resulting in brakes freezing up during cold temperature. The material in these rotore are poor quality.

Brakes failed causing a crash, the consumer was injured in the accident, consumer believes the tires were also the cause (unable to verify).
On several occasions I have experienced brake pulling problems and at leadt three occasions a complete braking failure. I have taken the 1999 Ford Ranger truck to the dealer with a complaint of brake pull at least three times before todays visit. The service department always writes "no problem found" on the repair order. I have notified Ford motor CO. Two times about the brake pull, brake fading, and numerous other complaints about the truck. I must always initate contact with the dealership even after Ford told me that the dealer would call within three business days. On numerous occassions the steering wheel pulled out of my grip hard to the left while braking. On three different occassions I lost all braking ability completely. The last incident almost resulted in acrash with another vehicle. The brakes became very hard as if the brake linings were experiencing brake fade. The brakes were not hot and I had plenty of highway to stop before meeting the stopped traffic ahead. I held tight to the steering wheel, almost standing up on the brake pedal to stop the small truck before a crash. I had plenty of time to mental think "this truck is not stopping. " I was not happy at the experience. Ford motor CO. Was notified of my concerns during august1999. No one seems to take me seriously. If I have a crashn as a result of this faulty braking system, I wantto at least have it on record that it was reported several times to many different organizations.
